Historical background of the band:

Lipali, a Polish rock band, was initiated by guitarist and vocalist Tomasz Lipnicki following the dissolution of the group Illusion in 1999. Initially a solo project of Lipnicki, Lipali evolved into a full-fledged band with the release of their debut album “Li-pa-li” in July 2000 by Universal Music Polska. The album showcased a departure from the sound Lipnicki was known for with Illusion, drawing inspiration from artists like David Sylvian, Adam F, Robert Fripp, Moloko, Massive Attack, and Peter Gabriel. Lipnicki composed all the songs and wrote the lyrics, with studio assistance from musicians including Ptah, ŻwirkoTom, Cezary Morawski, Ryszard Tymon Tymański, and Pyza. The album earned a Fryderyk award nomination in 2000 for “Album of the Year – Alternative Music” and received critical acclaim for its diversity and unique sound.

Following a brief period of changes, the band’s lineup stabilized with Łukasz Jeleniewski on drums and Adrian Kulik on bass. The band’s subsequent work marked a return to a more rock-oriented sound. Disagreements with Universal Music Polska led to the end of the Lipozone project and the termination of their contract with the label in 2001. Lipnicki’s brief stint with Acid Drinkers in 2003 further diversified his musical experience.

In fall 2004, Lipali released the album “Pi” under Pomaton EMI, blending psychedelic rock, hardcore, and grunge. The album featured contributions from Jerzy Mazzoll and was produced by Adam Toczko, known for his work with Illusion. Following albums like “Bloo” in 2007 and “Trio” in 2009 continued to demonstrate Lipali’s evolving sound and Lipnicki’s introspective lyrics. The band received critical acclaim and a Fryderyk nomination for “Trio”.

The band’s live album “Akustyk Live” in 2011 captured their acoustic performance, showcasing new arrangements of well-known tracks. “3850”, released in 2012, further exemplified the band’s growth, combining rock with introspective lyrics. The song “Najgroźniejsze zwierzę świata” from this album became the official song of the 21st finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP).

In 2015, Roman Bereźnicki joined Lipali, adding a new dimension to their music. The album “Fasady”, released that year, reflected the band’s matured musical direction, exploring themes of identity, love, and existential queries. “Mosty, Rzeki, Ludzie” (2019) presented a diverse range of emotions and stories, further establishing Lipali’s place in the rock genre. Their latest album “Mechanika”, released between 2022 and 2023, delves into human mechanisms and emotions, featuring a mix of Polish and English lyrics.

Despite their success and contributions to Polish rock music, Lipali announced a hiatus in 2023, marking a pause in their impactful journey.
