Leprous Take on A-Ha’s Classic “Take On Me” and It Oddly Works

Leprous Take on A-Ha's Classic "Take On Me" and It Oddly Works

The best covers are when bands take the original material and make it their own. Different tempo, different key, maybe a different playing style altogether. One such example of this was a recent Musora “Covers On The Spot” video in which they got Norwegian progressive metal act Leprous to cover “Take On Me”, that classic 80s track from fellow Norwegian band A-Ha.

What results from the on-the-spot challenge is actually pretty damn interesting. There are smooth tempo changes, the iconic keyboard riff is replaced with a deeper and darker tone.

It’s interesting to see how the band manage to “pull apart the DNA” of such a well-known track. Still, more than 41 years later “Take On Me” is finding new life in 2025.
