Jonathan “Boogie” Long Maps A Life In Music On Courage In The Chaos

Baton Rouge guitarist, singer, and songwriter Jonathon “Boogie” Long has announced Courage In The Chaos, a 12-song album arriving November 14th via Myrical Media. It is positioned as his clearest self-portrait to date, a set that threads Baton Rouge blues, gospel phrasing, and road-tested roots rock into songs that feel both immediate and weathered.

Long’s path reads like an apprenticeship that never really ended. He was the kid playing “Amazing Grace” in churches, nursing homes, and prisons. He was the teenager who left school to chase gigs with Henry Turner Jr., and the young gun who learned restraint the hard way while holding guitar chairs in Luther Kent’s band. Those years translate here as space, patience, and feel. The guitar still speaks first, but it does not talk over the song.

The new project gathers fresh material and older ideas he carried for years, a mix that lets the record play like a map of his musical life. Arrangements nod to his Baton Rouge roots and to the seasoning that came from JazzFest sets and long runs across the U.S. and Europe. He leans into groove and melody rather than flash, trusting a singer’s instinct for where a line should land.

The lead single “A Fool Can See” sets the tone. It rides a swaggering pocket while unpacking how shiny promises fall apart up close. “I kept hearing this idea of fool’s gold – how something shines until you get close. The rest wrote itself,” Long says. The solos carry that same tension. Early bends sound like someone holding their tongue. Later phrases stop pulling punches.

A Fool Can See is out now with an accompanying video, and pre-saves for Courage In The Chaos are live on all platforms. For updates and tour info, visit boogielong.com and follow @boogielongblues.
