Indie Rock Singer Songwriter Michael Paul Binz delivers waves of emotional depth, unabashed lyrical vulnerability and wholly unique song craftsmanship on new album “LET ME BE”, out now on digital platforms. Intensely personal, this 8-song collection clearly wears it’s heart on it’s sleeve.
A multi-instrumentalist, Michael initially became enthused about music through wind instruments and saxophone. When the grunge scene exploded, he pursued the guitar as a medium of choice. Finding inspiration in Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Radiohead and The Beatles, his path emerged with new clarity.
“It starts with an emotion and then becomes a declaration of time, reflection of a time in life. I feel like my mind has a few more gears in it then some, and I hear some things others may not care so much about, but at the end of the day it just makes me laugh. There is no judgement.”
“I feel like this is a turning point. Music is something I have always enjoyed doing weather with people or alone. Most of the songs on this album are about people or things I have experienced in life and either don’t want them in my life anymore or could not live without them. Yes, my sound is different. However, if I wanted to sound like everyone else, I suppose I could, but why follow suit when you can make something entirely new on your own. I miss the days of 80’s 90’s music and although my appreciation is there for all other artists, following suit in this case is simply not an expression. I might be Mike B. I might just stay this way until the end either way, just let me be.”

Artist Biography:
Matthew Paul Binz was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to parents that didn’t really enjoy music to the point that he did. His first band class was inspirational, leading to him starting with wind instruments and grew to the saxophone. Being an adolescent school kid that liked Guns n’Roses and Aerosmith, however, didn’t really appeal to the saxophone.
“I often would write out the lyrics of every artist I liked to see if I could distinguish what they were actually saying. In the days of cassettes and early CDs, lyrics weren’t always published, so it became a kind of challenge. I loved how I could hear a word someone was singing and, nine times out of ten, be right when I eventually looked the lyrics up.
By this time the grunge scene was taking off so I had to find an instrument that worked with what I was looking for at the time. I started playing guitar around 12 or 13 years old after watching some of my friends play. I got a fender strat black and white with an amplifier. Probably my 2nd or 3rd actual guitar. Buy this time my fingers had blead and what I mean is my knuckles, from your strumming hand, not the finger that you use on the fretboard. I had my far share of rock concerts in my beadroom or playing for my older brother and sisters’ friends who would say hey play that again. Fun words of encouragement go a long way.
In high school and college my love for music didn’t stop although I had to figure out a life that would allow me to continue to play just like any other artist. I played at the big man on campus and greek god festivals and enjoyed realm of disbelief only to be held at the same point I still don’t know what I am doing.
Over the years I have played music on beach boulevards and back yards and late night parties, my hopes are to bring a old age sound back with a new age vibe. I write everything down—feelings, moments, and how things affected me. Movies, books, life experiences, and personal history all made their way into my songs. The parts that make the most sense are usually the ones that are true.
Even though it took me 27 years to finally release one of my own songs, it makes me reflect on all the different ways I can now play the songs I’ve recently released—and that’s what’s special to me. Not learning one song and playing it the same way forever. The live aspect is what really makes something stand out. I hope you enjoy the music for what it is worth and I don’t plan to stop.”
