Californian musician Mr. Grossman wholeheartedly embraces his inner chameleon on his wantonly eclectic full-length album “After a Fashion”, released January 30th via his independent label Nindiscordant Music. Grossman stirs up a curious sonic gumbo drawing from equal parts trip hop, dream pop, neo soul, synth pop and progressive rock. It’s an adventurous concoction, yet seamless and interconnected in it’s delivery. Mr. Grossman (Mark S Grossman) has straddled the tech and music world for years. With eclectic sensibilities, he has written pieces range wildly in both style and personality.
“After a Fashion refers to both approximating something and literal style. The songs on this album echo some forms and artists I have been into over decades – or months – from Ella Fitzgerald to Marvin Gaye to Toro y Moi. Most of the songs explore the scary edges of romance — in other words, Dark Romance – a literary and artistic thread running across centuries. Part of the darkness comes from the fearful present – “with the world going the way it is”.”
“After a Fashion” excites, confounds and powerfully expresses the spirit of an artist who refuses to be tied down by labels or limited perceptions. This is purposeful art with an innate curiosity and untethered sense of adventure.
