Over the weekend, the video game industry showcased scores of new titles coming out in the near (and often not so near) future as part of a series of presentations called the Summer Games Fest. And while it was exciting to see what’s next in games, one Behemoth-fueled moment stood out as especially cool for us metalheads, too.
During the official Geoff Keighley-hosted Summer Games Fest showcase, developer Cold Symmetry revealed the insanely badass-looking Souls-like Mortal Shell II. As you can see in the trailer below, it’s dark, it’s violent, and if you’ve ever played that type of game, you know it’s completely unforgiving. And while the visuals were cool, it was the trailer’s soundtrack that immediately stood out, as it featured Behemoth’s “Ben Sahar” from The Satanist.
Metal music just fits this kind of game perfectly, so it made sense to hear Behemoth as the soundtrack for the trailer. And I wouldn’t be shocked if the game featured metal throughout, as its predecessor Mortal Shell featured an update that allowed you to select an alternative soundtrack from Greek black metal outfit Rotting Christ.
Whether or not you’ll be able to slay dark foes with Behemoth as the backing track has yet to be revealed, as the game itself won’t be released until 2026. Still, it was a cool moment to hear such a killer song being played for a more mainstream audience.
