The Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP) Los Angeles Chapter will host Executive Talk with Mike Knobloch: The Business of Film Music on Wednesday, October 23rd, featuring an in-depth conversation with Knobloch on the art, craft, and business behind some of Hollywood’s most celebrated soundtracks.

As President of Music and Publishing for Universal Pictures, Knobloch oversees all aspects of the studio’s global music operations – spanning composer selection, song placement, and the creative collaboration between directors, producers, and artists. The discussion will dive into how music decisions are shaped by budget, storytelling, and release strategy, exploring the differences between theatrical and streaming projects, the process of developing major soundtrack albums, and the creative evolution of movie musicals.

The evening will also touch on Universal’s upcoming Wicked: Part Two, offering an inside look at the making of one of the most anticipated musical releases of the year, alongside broader reflections on the growing role of music in defining a film’s cultural legacy.

Jon Burlingame, award-winning author, journalist, and Variety film-music writer, will moderate the conversation.

An Emmy-winning and two-time GRAMMY-nominated Music Supervisor and Producer, Knobloch’s career highlights include five of the top twenty highest-grossing films of all time (Jurassic WorldTitanicAvatar) and RIAA Diamond-certified hits such as “See You Again,” “Happy,” and “Earned It.” Under his leadership, Universal’s soundtracks have been streamed more than 43 billion times worldwide.

The event will take place in Los Angeles, featuring networking, tray-passed hors d’oeuvres, and drinks from 6:00–7:15 PM, followed by the main program from 7:30–9:00 PM. Free onsite parking will be available. No walk-ups permitted; advance registration is required by October 17th. For more information, please visit HERE.
