Journey Rocks Rupp Arena on Final Tour

When Journey took the stage at Rupp Arena on March 22, 2026, the first notes of that familiar keyboard swell and guitar cry reminded everyone why this band still matters in 2026. In an era of streaming playlists and short attention spans, Journey delivers something rare: anthemic melodies, soaring harmonies, and the kind of communal sing-alongs that turn a basketball arena into one big living room.

Their sound—built on Neal Schon’s expressive guitar work, Jonathan Cain’s atmospheric keys, and Arnel Pineda’s powerful voice—feels timeless, bridging generations of fans who grew up with these songs on the radio and those discovering them now. The crowd was all ages, with a Father and his grown 30- something son beside me, singing nearly every song.

Highlights from the Rupp Arena Show

The band treated the sold-out crowd in Lexington to a rousing two-hour-and-twenty-minute performance with no opening act—just pure Journey from start to finish. What stood out most were the moments that let the musicians shine individually before folding back into the full band sound. Jonathan Cain’s elegant piano solo flowed seamlessly into “Who’s Crying Now,” giving the arena a quiet, emotional breather before the guitars kicked back in. Later, Neal Schon’s fiery guitar solo built into an extended jam on “Wheel in the Sky,” complete with pyro bursts that lit up the rafters and had the whole place on its feet.

A special note goes to drummer Deen Castronovo, whose incredibly talented playing and soaring high notes carried much of the night. He handled the double-kick rhythms with precision and stepped up on lead vocals for several tracks—including a heartfelt “Lights”—easing the load on frontman Arnel Pineda and letting the band’s vocal harmonies hit even harder. The energy never dipped, and the set drew from every era of the band’s catalog, exactly as promised on this farewell run.

The venue itself added to the magic. Rupp Arena, the iconic Lexington landmark that opened in 1976 and has hosted University of Kentucky basketball legends for decades, proved once again why it’s a favorite stop for big rock shows. With its excellent sightlines, strong acoustics, and electric atmosphere, the historic space felt perfectly suited for a night of classic arena rock.
