There’s subtlety and then there’s whatever you want to call what Deftones have been doing ahead of the unveiling of their new album. Over the last few months, we’ve heard little drips and drabs about how new music was being worked on and whatnot, but some recent digital adverts are pretty much bashing us over the head with the fact that new music is right around the corner.
The most recent instance of the band being overt with the coming of their new album was an image that was displayed during a live show. In it, the image features the words “private music” with the Roman numerals X.VII.MMXXV and a warning that it was distributed by Deftones with all rights reserved. If you translate the numerals and consider the fact that it’s likely using the European date format, then it seems like we’ll know more about “private music” on July 10.
There’s been a lot of talk about the new Deftones album. As of now, we know it’s being produced by Nick Raskulinecz. And if guitarist Stephen Carpenter is to be believed, the new record will sound “like a continuation of Ohms and Koi…you’ll hear us. But I think you’re going to hear things on this one that you never heard on any of them. So…”
So with all that in mind, we have roughly 11 days before we’ll learn more. In the meantime, you can always catch Deftones live and see those digital advertisements yourself. You just gotta go to any of the live dates below.
