  • I saw Iggy Pop at the Palladium in Los Angeles. This was in the early 80s after this time. And Maggie Ewing of twisted roots opened for them. She’s an old punk who was sort of associated with the Red Hot chili peppers. My daughter was friends with her daughter in Santa Monica in the 80s. What a circle life is.

  • Gotta put on them sailin shoes under a spanish moon with a Dixie Chicken, long live Loewll and Feat. jr

  • Back in 1980, Marvel published a Spider-Man annual where Peter Parker and his date attended a Shrapnel show at CBGB. Bring a 12 yr old midwesterner, I had never heard of any of this stuff. In the story, the band’s show ends out in the street. Maybe the band was friends with the writer or the artist?

  • Probably should have called the documentary Max's. JMO

  • So funny to realize all of us -if we're still alive -are old as f*ck

  • "When we're nightclubbing, bright-white clubbing
Oh, isn't it wild?", Jones and Osterberg

  • 1:00:10. That's crazy, lol. I'll always remember going up the stairs at Max's and watching, as some dude gets chucked down the stairs. At the bottom, he skidded on his face, across the pavement, for what seemed like five feet.

  • But WHY was it called "Max's Kansas City"?

  • Loved the New York Dolls! Back when a guy in a dress was interesting and sexy, instead of another entitled jerk who's angry because you didn't use their "preferred pronouns."

  • I remember one night going home, a huge rat came out of the sewer and looked both ways before crossing the street!

  • There was also Hurrah’s, u loved that place!

  • Stars came to Maxes ( Peter Crowley era )
David Johansen during time he claims : " l made so much $$$ in Japan l didnt need to work for 2 years. " was usually there , just hanging upstairs.
The ' Rip Her To Shreds " girl made the rounds there , ( One of Kieth Richards ' Girls )
The Troggs played ( l think ..) 1 night appearance every year , and 3 or 4 Jersey Biker clubs … showed up , wasnt comfortable vibe. Once they brought a Chimpanzee.
One night l walked in upstairs and about 10 guys with Kieth Richard looks were……. leaning on the bar (???)
Heartbreakers flew back to NY one weekend on Laker Air…during Anarchy Tour. Jerry came over and spoke with David , Thunders wouldn't.
Jist of conv…: ' First we beat the shit out of them , then they respected us…'

Johnny got the So Alone cover photo , from the framed photo of him sitting on a step ladder, which hung furthest to the street ( upstairs ) .
We turned the tables over like 5 times at least at Heartbreakers shows.

The Ego trip' part on Jayne Countys song…' Down At Maxe's resonates.. ….

British Punk Press coverage reveals the audience , the constantly there. U.S.
